This is a sunrise in early February, 2010 at Haridwar. The Mahakumbh mela is on here on the banks of River Ganga. The Mahakumbh mela is the oldest and largest congregation of people anywhere in the world. There's a festive spirit in the air as sadhus, seekers and tourists rub shoulders here.

Hill mynas, pigeons, black cormorants, wagtails and crows are quite at home in and around the Ganga, even when people are close by.

Masala-Lemon tea by Subhash Roy

Subhash Roy's masala-lemon tea for Rs. 4/- a cup was great! He is on the move, but the tea is hot and a hot-seller too in Haridwar's Moti Bazar.

Chole-bhature or Puri-alu at Rs. 28/- are good here. Malpua-halwa for Rs 15/- plate could have been better had it been cooked in pure ghee.

The temple of Mansa Devi, is visible in this picture taken from Har ki Pauri. It is in the clouds to the left of the pole. The ropeway trolley is a quick way to get there.

Security, security…
