Relax
We want a disease free body, a violence free city, a confusion free mind, an inhibition free intellect and a quiver free breath. We’ll have to take steps to incorporate all these things in our life.
As elders you feel that your children should lead their life as you do. Can’t be! But we need to communicate better. Give your children space to grow. At the same time keep guiding them.

Ayurveda
A one-pot dish, khichdi soothes vata dosha. Though the potatoes and tomatoes are not exactly vata friendly, but they lose their edge in a one-pot dish cooked with cereals, spices such as coriander, cumin and turmeric. Ginger improves digestive agni, pitta. Ghee, again is a vata pacifier, but Kapha types should go easy with the ghee and sugar.

Whole wheat flour, butter and yogurt, make the recipe wholesome and satvic, pacifying Vata and Pitta doshas. Though coffee increases vata, in this combination, it has no ill-effects. It is a completely feel-good food - wholesome and nourishing. Kapha dosha can be increased, therefore stick to a small serving.

We reached Pachmarhi on a December evening and took to the Jatashankar trek trail soon after. The photos here show the waning light of day. Railed steps lead the way into the Jatashankar valley. The valley is silent except for the echo of temple bells and birds on their way to roost in trees for the night.

Thekkady means wildlife! Elephants, bison, boar, deer… I was ready to greet the tiger, but didn’t see one despite a night patrol with the forest guards with torches, guns and a line of elephants on either side of us! The sound of leaves rustling under our feet on a moonless, starry night…

The auto driver dropped us at a stall selling fruit and flowers, which devotees take as a tribute to Chandi Devi. Alongside the decorative stall, smelling of incense and apples, a narrow, part-cemented track led us up the hill. There is a ropeway trolley service up the hill, but we preferred to climb. The climb is steep :-)

Up there in nature's cool bosom, even the noise in one's head dies a muffled death. Though it isn't like really being there, these photographs transport me back into those cool locales and I can almost feel the chill in the air.

Close to the bustling and popular hill station Nainital in Kumaon Himalaya, Khurpatal seems a secret haven hidden in the hills, that is why it is still echoing with the sounds of nature and not the machine age man and his boisterousness. If you love serenity, then Khurpatal is just the place for you.
