Rooftop garden in January, North India Photo journal
After a long spell of cold, sunny days are here again. With the sunny days more buds have started blooming into beautiful rainbow hued flowers. These seasonals were planted in November, and by January end they are in florid bloom :-)
Geranium
Read about Geraniums in Ruskin Bond books since childhood, now it blooms in my rooftop garden too :)
Nasturtium
"Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature."
~ Gerard De Nerval
Nasturtiums in a pot are a perfect flower arrangement. The terracotta flower pot can be left to bask in the late winter sun or taken to different parts of the house to brighten up things.
White Pansy
"To create a little flower is the labor of ages."
~ William Blake
I picked these giant pansies from NBRI's flower show in early January.
Delightful Dahlias!
These dahlias in my rooftop garden are bigger than my face!
"If you've never been thrilled to the very edges of your soul by a flower in spring bloom, maybe your soul has never been in bloom."
~ Audra Foveo
An old time favourite: Giant Marigold
I preserve giant marigold seeds for the next season.
"To be overcome by the fragrance of flowers is a delectable form of defeat."
~ Beverly Nichols
Margarita
"Where flowers bloom so does hope."
~ Lady Bird Johnson,
Striped Petunia
This fluorescent red-pink petunia is a delight. Got it from NBRI's flower show.
"I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers."
~ Claude Monet
Cosmos
Cosmos blooms in white, pink and magenta have been around for some months now. They were blooming even when the cold and fog was daunting other flowers from showing their petalled heads.
Candytuft
Toadflax or Spurred Snapdragon
"The flowers of late winter and early spring occupy places in our hearts well out of proportion to their size."
~ Gertrude S. Wister
Aster
"When the flower blooms, the bees come uninvited."
~ Ramakrishna Paramhans
