Nothing else makes you more tired than your own desires, or greed. So what is important is for you to become content. Again and again, be content. This is an art and this is what meditation is.
In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says, “You cannot get into yoga (union with the self) unless you drop the desires in you.” So the question is how to drop desires. Meditation is the art of letting go your desires.
Not that all desires are bad, some desires are good, some desires are okay and some other ones are really bad.
Desires cause some stress or imbalance in the body. When there is stress, then naturally you feel tired. But when you detach, when you become a witness to all that is happening, then all the stress disappears.
When someone dies we offer sesame seeds; it means that all the unfulfilled desires are like sesame seeds & not worth holding on to.
Since there are so many desires that arise, some get fulfilled, and some don`t. If you remain happy whether the desire is fulfilled or not, then it does not become a thorn.
Truth never fails or gets shaken. True faith remains unshaken regardless of everything that happens. That which shakes is just some small belief at a very superficial level. It is your own expectations and desires which shake you.
Now' is for 'total contentment' and 'tomorrow' is for 'desires, planning and wanting'. So behere and now, in total contentment and total serenity.
When you have a big goal in your life, small desires will not trouble you. If thoughts of greed or possessing more and more bother you, be greedy for the highest. And what is the highest? The divine.
Why would there be some stress or discomfort in the body? It is because of desires. Desires cause some stress or imbalance in the body. When there is stress, then naturally you feel tired. But when you detach, when you become a witness to all that is happening, then all the stress disappears.
Observe all the events in life as a witness. Observe everything happening inside the body as a witness. Reaching this state (of being a witness) takes time. It takes time for the heat of desires, for the restlessness arising from various distortions to settle down within. The greater is the steadiness in being a witness, greater is the joy and bliss that springs from within.
With whatever desires or state of mind you leave your present physical body, the same (desires or state of mind) determine the kind of physical body and state of mind you attain to in the next birth. That is why Lord Krishna says, “Always keep remembering Me”.
The physical body does not make you as tired as the mind does. Work doesn’t make you as tired as much as your desires. Nothing else makes you more tired than your own desires, or greed.
We often mistake our intense craving for our intense faith and try to manipulate the divine to fulfill our desires and get our work done. If you have faith in God only for the sake of having your desires fulfilled, then that will simply not work.
In life, each one of us becomes a Guru for someone or the other. What does being a Guru mean? A Guru desires nothing from you except your well-being and progress on the path. That is the Guru Tattva. You will surely have to play the role of a Guru in someone’s life.
