Kashi – the ticket to Enlightenment
Kashi is Shiva’s eternal abode. There is a saying that even if a donkey dies in Kashi (Varanasi), he attains salvation. Saint Kabir defied this misinterpreted piece of wisdom and shifted to Magahar, about which there was a myth prevalent at that time that anyone who died in Magahar would be reborn as a donkey in the next life. Kabir maintained that enlightenment is unconditional. Spiritual leader, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar explains the deeper meaning of Kashi and attaining salvation: Kashi lies between Rivers Yamuna and Assi. These rivers correspond with the Ida and Pingla Nadis in humans. When a person is centered in wisdom, Kashi, the Sushumna Nadi which lies in the middle of Ida and Pingla Nadis, when he breathes his last, salvation is available.
